My Staffordshire Update
For the past few weeks I’ve been settling into my new role as the Member of Parliament for Stone, Great Wyrley, and Penkridge, and I’ve been lucky to take part in events right across the constituency. It’s been wonderful to see so many new faces alongside many familiar ones, and I’d like to take this opportunity to update you on what I’ve been up to.
I always enjoy supporting local sports and games clubs in any way that I can, as they’re important to keep us physically and mentally fit, and they’re a great force to maintain tight-knit, supportive communities. Recently I met with Penkridge junior football club, a great local club in need of larger facilities to home their expanding team. I’m working with them to find a new home ground. Similarly, I recently met with the Great Wyrley Scouts group to discuss opportunities for expansion. It’s been lovely to hear that our organisations are continuing to thrive and grow.
In other news, summer is always a fantastic time of year because my calendar is filled with village fetes and celebrations. I was pleased to be able to attend Shareshill summer fete a few weeks ago, as well as the Wheaton Aston arts show, where I was impressed by the local talent on display.
Meanwhile, as ever, my office and I are always hard at work helping constituents, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any issues where I can be of assistance. I can be reached by email at gavin.williamson.mp@parliament.uk, or you can phone my office on 01902 846 616.
Very best wishes,
Gavin
Visiting Wheaton Aston’s Art Exhibition
Sir Gavin Williamson met with artists and locals at the Wheaton Aston Arts Exhibition.
Sir Gavin joined Margaret Bailey, the organiser of the exhibition, which took place in St Mary’s Church. The event showcased the arts, crafts and photography of local artists and members of Wheaton Aston Arts Group, including woodwork, sketches, and paintings depicting the local area.
Sir Gavin said: “It was wonderful to meet some local artists and speak about their creations and their passion for Wheaton Aston and our surroundings. I’m grateful to Margaret and her team of helpers for organising the exhibition which gave an opportunity for many to showcase their talents.”
Supporting the Scouts in Great Wyrley
Sir Gavin Williamson joined the Great Wyrley Scouts and Guides to discuss possibilities for extending the organisation’s grounds.
The scouting group holds activities to promote leadership and collaboration to young people. In order to host more activities, like archery, the club wants to expand its premises, aiming to increase its membership and provide more opportunities for young people to engage in the organisation.
Sir Gavin was keen to support the expansion of the grounds, recognising the importance of providing more opportunities for youth engagement. It will enhance opportunities for scouts and guides to develop skills and foster a sense of togetherness and cohesion.
Sir Gavin said: “It was lovely to meet with the Great Wyrley local Scouts group, an organisation that provides young people with excellent opportunities to set them up for their later lives. I’m going to work with the group going forward to assess opportunities for expanding the grounds with the hope that more young people will get involved.”
Sourcing New Grounds for Penkridge Football Club
Sir Gavin Williamson met with Penkridge junior football club to discuss possibilities for a new home ground.
Sir Gavin joined the club’s leadership along with a West Midlands Interchange (WMI) representative Michael Kirkland to highlight the importance of adequate facilities for young players. The football club has twenty teams, however their current facility is not adequate for the potential capacity they might require.
The team has received assistance from WMI in their search for an appropriate home field with the focus on improving services for youngsters.
Sir Gavin said: “I’m pleased to see that the West Midlands Interchange are cooperating with our local sports teams to provide our community clubs with the space needed for them to grow. Penkridge junior football club is a fantastic sports club and I hope to see progress on the establishment of a new home ground.”
Joining Shareshill’s Summer Celebrations
Sir Gavin Williamson visited Shareshill for their family fun day summer fete.
Sir Gavin joined Parish Councillor Brian Churm to speak to locals and visit the fairground stalls, having a go himself at ‘name the teddy’. He was pleased to see the success of the event, which was attended by many from across Shareshill and the wider area.
Sir Gavin said: “It was lovely to see a large turnout for the fete, and I’m pleased to see that Shareshill’s sense of community is going strong. I always enjoy visiting Shareshill and it was wonderful to be able to speak to more residents.”
